Open Enrollment is Here!

Today is an important day for those looking to enroll in a health insurance plan. The Open Enrollment period for 2017 starts today and will end on January 31st, 2017. There are some dates you’ll need to keep in mind and some other information you should know about what Open Enrollment means.

What can I do today?

Because Open Enrollment starts today, there are a couple things you are able to do. You can enroll in a health insurance plan or re-enroll in your current one. You also can change your 2017 plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace. The Marketplace is ideal for people who are unable to get health insurance coverage through their job or others who offer coverage.

If you’re looking for your coverage to start on the first of January next year, then you’ll want to enroll before December 15th this year. Visit healthcare.govfor a complete list of dates and additional information regarding health insurance.

What happens if I miss the deadline?

January 31st, 2017 marks the last day to enroll in a health insurance plan or change your current one. If you still need coverage after this date has passed, you’ll only receive it if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. This means you can only receive coverage if something significant happens. For example, you may be eligible if you were recently married.

There are so many reasons why it’s important to have health insurance. You want to remain in good health, but also receive adequate medical care and receive it when you need it. It’s essential to act fast when issues arise with your health. Without coverage, you may not receive the care you need in a timely manner.

Keep an eye on the calendar.

Let’s review those important dates one more time. Remember to mark your calendars so you don’t miss the deadlines. It’s easy to let things slip your mind toward the end of the year, especially as we approach the holidays. Set aside some time away from your busy schedule to figure out the actions you’ll need to take for your health care plan for next year.
